Introduction
Today we are going to learn about CRISPIR. So let's roll and learn about it!
What is CRISPIR?
CRISPIR is nothing but editing DNA.
What is Cas9 and how does it work?
Cas9 is a protein. Let's say yellow fever enters the body and body makes the protein Cas9. Now the body has faced yellow fever before and it has a fragment of the virus' DNA. It creates the Cas9 protein and puts the fragment of viral DNA in the protein. Then the body leaves it to go on patrol. So Cas9 like "scans" every "invader" DNA in the body with the fragment it has. Then snip snap it cuts the DNA. In other words Cas9 patrols the body until it finds an "invader" with the DNA fragment Cas9 has. If that is still complicated for you, click on the word NOVA in my bibliography. This may be not a real situation but the scenario shows how Cas9 works.
How is Cas9 related to CRISPIR?
Let's say we have a DNA strand here. The strand is AGTAGTAGTAAACGTA. Do you recognize a pattern here? I do. The pattern is AGTA. But there's also some letters between the 1st AGTA and the 2nd AGTA. Those letters are called spaces. Now let's say that Cas9 bumped into our DNA strand and was looking for the fragment AC in our strand. So it cuts it and now the DNA strand has changed. CRISPIR is all about changing DNA, right? So that's how Cas9 is related to CRISPIR.
The positives of CRISPIR
CRISPIR can treat diseases such as sickle cell and cancer. Parents can also use CRISPIR to customize a child's traits so that they like the child. CRISPIR can also be used so that people with old age can still live for a few years. These are all positives of CRISPIR.
The negatives of CRISPIR
We can go too far with CRISPIR. For example, we can use it to change embryos, but that means the changes can be passed on from generation to generation. That is one negative of CRISPIR. If you want to learn more, please go to my bibliography.
A tribute to Mother Nature
I want to thank Mother Nature because she created us and CRISPIR. Then we discovered it.
So, I guess that's that. Buh Bye!
